noci-obvestilo

International music festival “Nights in Old Ljubljana Town” is one of the biggest cultural and tourist events in Slovenia, considering its scale, number of performers and visitors. The festival attracts about 60.000 domestic and foreign visitors. The echo of the festival can be heard internationally and critiques show, that Nights in Old Ljubljana Town are becoming a renowed street festival in Europe. This is proven by the interest of foreign tourist agencies, which organize cultural trips to Ljubljana at the time of the festival. Festival has had evident effects on cultural, economic and tourist development of Ljubljana.

This year is the 29th edition of the festival and it will last from 24th of August to 26th of August, on 14 venues in the old city centre of Ljubljana.

The cohesive thread of this years festival “Nights in Old Ljubljana Town” programme will be the slavic culture. We wish to present the musical art of different slavic nations, expose their quality and its meaning in creating European cultural space. Special accent will be made on the contemporary music production, different musical practices and approaches. The performances of west european ensembles will be of particular interest, since they build their music production on slavic musical tradition. One of the main cohesive threads in this years festival, will be the constant pillar of the project, the multicultural dialogue.

Apart from abundance of the music events, Nights in Old Ljubljana Town will offer different other cultural events (literary, cinematic, dance performances, creative workshops, seminars etc.) and rich accompanying programme, in which it is necessary to expose the 7th Musicological symposium, which will be co-organized with the ethnomusicological department of the Faculty of Arts UL, ZRC SAZU, International Council of Traditional Music (ICTM) and Cultural and Ethno musicological society Folk Slovenia. The symposuim will be dedicated of musical archaeology and it  will be held in the National Museum of Art in Ljubljana, with the temporary exhibition Archaeomusica (after Ystad in Sweden and Valladolid in Spain)

Accompanying events will focus on ecology and sustainable development, with the focus on renewable sources of energy and other ecology-related innovations.

The events will be directly broadcasted by national radio Slovenia (on all three programmes) and their part of its programme will be created live on the festival sites. The opening concert of the festival will be filmed and broadcasted by national media house RTV Slovenia.
