Hail to the spring – “GREGORČKI”
The event is preceded by a series of art and educational workshops in many schools, kindergartens and elsewhere. At the workshops, children, under the guidance of museum curators, art and technical education teachers and art students, make small floating objects, rafts and boats (“gregorčki”) from natural and recycled materials. Special attention is paid to the development of children’s creativity and protection of the environment. We encourage the visitors to make their “gregorček” from biodegradable and ecological waste materials. Important aim of the event is also revitalisation of the cultural image of the old town. The venue of the event (the banks of the Gradaščica and the Trnovo Bridge) are part of the architectural legacy of Jože Plečnik.
Before the event, there will be two art workshops for children to make their own “gregorček”:
- on Saturday, 4 March at 11 a.m., at the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum (Metelkova ulica 2, Ljubljana),
- on Friday, 10 March, at 5 p.m., in the Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana (Ižanska cesta 15, Ljubljana),
- on Saturday, 11 March, at 10 a.m., in the Kinodvor (Kolodvorska 13, 1000 Ljubljana),
- on Saturday, 11 March, at 11 a.m., at Mala ulica (Prečna 7, Ljubljana),
At the workshops and the event, we cultivate ecological awareness of the participants and remind the children of the importance of protecting the environment. Before the event, we thoroughly clean the riverbed and the banks of the Gradaščica river. Before Gradaščica flows into the Ljubljanica, we also catch the “gregorčki” and place them in special containers intended for this purpose.
Make your own “gregorček” from biodegradable materials and join us!
Admission free. * In case of rain the event will take place in Slovenian Ethnographic Museum (Metelkova ulica 2, Ljubljana).
