After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Middle Tennessee State University, Conductor James Ramsey got his Master of Music degree in Conducting at the Eastman School of Music before earning his doctorate in Choral Literature and Performance at the University of Colorado Boulder. In the course of his career, he held positions at the University of Colorado, University of Denver, and Whitman College in Washington. Ramsey was also Artistic Director at the Wesley Choral Festival and Assistant Conductor of the Grammy award-winning San Francisco Symphony Chorus. He served as the repertoire and standards chair of the American Choral Directors Association for community choirs for Colorado and the Southwest Region. He is currently the executive director at the Performing Arts Academy at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the director of its Music and Arts department.
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Chancel Choir is part of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Colorado, which has always recognised the power of music to improve the world around us. The church places a great deal of emphasis in enacting positive change through artistic creativity. Its Music and Art Ministries include a wide range of vocal and instrumental ensembles for adults, youth, and children, such as Grace Notes, Men’s Chorus, Sisters of Soul, Tintinnabulators Handbell Choir, Ministers of Swing Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, as well as Brass, Flute and Wind Ensembles, and last but not least the Chancel Choir. The choir’s European tour includes 38 choir singers accompanied by a 14-member chamber ensemble. They will be performing a repertoire ranging from Baroque pieces to contemporary arrangements of Christian hymns.
