JULY AND AUGUST FRIDAYS ARE FOR JAZZ!

This Friday, June 30, 2023, JAZZ STAGE International Concert Cycle opens at Ljubljana Castle. It will offer an attractive and varied concert program at Gornji trg in Ljubljana every Friday in July and August.

We warmly invite all fans of this exciting and varied musical genre to join us this summer for JAZZ STAGE, where we will hear from eight exceptional bands, from well-established jazz names to talented young musicians.

The Stanford Jazz Orchestra (USA) will open JAZZ STAGE Fridays on the last evening of June with a big concert at the Ljubljana Castle, with one of the most sought-after American jazz trumpeters, Wayne Bergeron. The American star, coming to Slovenia for the first time, regularly collaborates with world-famous names such as Ray Charles, Beyoncé, Barbra Streisand, Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, Seal, Diane Krall, Tito Puente and others, and his unrivaled playing can also be heard in the most popular movies.

On Friday, July 7, the summer jazz evenings will be continued by the most impressive Slovenian jazz up-and-comer: the TG Quartet, which won a gold plaque and first prize at last year’s TEMSIG Slovenian national competition.

On July 14, at Gornji trg, the ace tenor of Slovenian saxophonism, Lenart Krečič, will present the new album of his new quartet of Slovenian jazz giants Home Run with guitarist Teo Colori, keyboardist Tonč Feinig and drummer Gašper Bertoncelj.

On July 21, the Gal Furlan Quartet from will offer us a cocktail of fusion jazz, afro, funk, free jazz and rock at Stari trg in front of ŠKUC.

On the last Friday of July, JAZZ STAGE will see the latest line-up of renowned guitarist Matjaž Dajčar, MatJazz II, joined by our most prominent young vibraphonist Vid Jamnik, who has graduated with honors from the American Berklee College of Music, and the genius Austrian drummer Klemens Marktl.

Daniel Caccia, nominated for the prestigious Echo Jazz Awards and winner of the Croatian Porin Award for jazz album of the year, will join us on August 4th, performing alongside the seasoned Ratko Zjaca Organ Trio (Croatia, Netherlands, Slovenia).

On August 11, we will listen to NextPLZ: the latest project of the versatile saxophonist Jani Šepetavec, which he will present in the company of the excellent keyboardist Aleš Ogrin, bassist Erik Čebokli and the wonderful drummer Tomi Purič.

We will conclude the Ljubljana Jazz Fridays with the rising star of the Slovenian jazz scene, singer Sarah Železnik, who brings the freshness of Amsterdam jazz clubs to Slovenia. She will perform with a line-up of top jazz players, namely our internationally successful keyboardist Marko Črnčec, who needs no introduction to jazz connoisseurs, and the experienced Nikola Matošič and Žiga Smrdel.

On the last Friday in August, the further enriched JAZZ STAGE will come to life under the auspices of the International Festival Nights in Old Ljubljana.
