Glasbena matica Ljubljana has been successfully promoting Slovenian choral creativity, and over the past years, it has been actively co-shaping the Slovenian choral landscape with several of its own choral ensembles. Through study of quality choral literature of established composers of vocal and vocal-instrumental music it offers choir singers of different generations opportunities for their personal artistic growth and spiritual enrichment. In addition to all active choral ensembles operating under the wing of Glasbena matica, the Youth Vocal Group was created last autumn. It has been formed to bridge the youth and the mixed choir of the Glasbena matica. Former and current singers of the youth choir who are 16 years of age or older, and other singers with the desire to continue their activity in the choral ensemble were invited to participate. The newly formed vocal group will offer them a wide range of expressive and artistic opportunities.

The programme of the choir’s premiere performance consists of two different musical languages. First part offers seven madrigals of the English Renaissance music, which young singers rarely encounter thus it represents a welcoming new challenge, through which they learn the specific laws of early music from the unique characteristics of old music to different singing techniques and various performing practices. The second part presents musical images from girl’s life from the original Slovenian folk song. One-, three-, four- and five-part folk songs are connected with individual stanzas in a story that describes the life of a Slovenian girl from dawn to dusk, from the first blush, to flirting, falling in love, happy love, dancing, a boy leaving for army, an unhappy motherhood, missing, and restoring hope of new love. Selected songs form a carefully planned dramaturgical arc, and the colour-nuanced sound image of the rounded performance enables an artistic, emotional and arch-memory meditative experience for both, performers and listeners.
