SiBRASS 2020 CONCERT CYCLE

In the uncertain year 2020, the SiBRASS association continues and upgrades the cycle of concerts, in which it presents a variety of musical works and ensembles with an emphasis on brass.

With the support of the Department of Culture of the City of Ljubljana and other supporters, the association was able to design a four-year program framework for the concert cycle, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks.

Each concert of each season will highlight a specific performing ensemble, such as brass quintets, smaller and diverse chamber ensembles that include at least one brass instrument, larger brass ensembles, brass instrument and piano duets, and chamber ensembles of younger generations of trumpeters. For the selection of representatives of the younger generation, we set up and carried out a tender in which an extensive expert commission consisting of excellent pedagogues from all Slovenian institutions at the secondary and university level of music education participated. The members of the commission were: Boštjan Lipovšek, Jure Gradišnik, Matjaž Jevšnikar, Andrej Karba, Nejc Merc, Boris Dvoršak, Dejan Podbregar, Jure Krajnc, Damir Tkavc, Miran Šumečnik, Mirko Orlač and Rok Vilhar. We are pleased with the numerous promising response of young people and, above all, the fact that all the applications were artistically extremely convincing, which made the work of the commission extremely exhausting.

This time we will be joined by horn player Sebastijan Buda in a duet with pianist Urban Stanič and the FourCor horn quartet, which, in addition to Buda, also includes Blaž Ogrič, Petar Kšenek and Gašper Okorn. The remaining concerts will feature euphonist Nejc Merc in a duet with pianist Davorin Mori, horn player Andrej Žust, who will this time perform in a trio with orchestral colleagues, trumpet player Gabór Tarkövi and trombone player Jesper Busk Sørensen, and an extremely promising line-up of graduates of the Ljubljana Academy of Music – Schaka Brass Quintet.

The SiBRASS concert cycle this year includes four chamber concerts, while the program for a larger brass ensemble was postponed due to the well-known epidemiological situation.

For all concerts, we will keep you informed about the possibilities of visiting live via the website www.sibrass.com and on the Facebook page of the SiBRASS association, and at the same time we will do our best to make all concerts viewable live online.

At the end, I invite you to support our work with a donation to the transaction account of the Sibrass Association (SI56 0201 0026 0623 446, opened with NLB). Any contribution received will be welcome in the organization of concert events to continue, for which I sincerely thank.

Franc Kosem, President of SiBRASS
