Martin Listabarth is a great musical storyteller whose music begins where words no longer suffice. His music is deeply rooted in jazz, but also moves between classical and pop – all embellished with a touch of oriental spirit. His compositions are inspired by landscapes and cities, people and personal encounters. This is reflected in the highly emotional music – sometimes melancholic, sometimes full of tension, and then again witty, spiced with harmonic and rhythmic refinements that “recall the lively lines of Stefano Bollani” (Wiener Zeitung).
Instead of brushes, Listabarth uses keys and pedals to create magnificent soundscapes that address the audience perfectly. His solo albums Short Stories and Dedicated, as well as his current album with his trio Postcards, have not only captured the national media (ORF, Ö1, Die Presse, Der Standard), but have also attracted international attention. Described by the British Pianist Magazine as “worthy of attention”, by BR-Klassik as “a musician who enjoys high acclaim both as a pianist and composer”, he has also received a nomination for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. The Vienna-based pianist Martin Listabarth regularly appears at jazz festivals and performs concerts all over the world – his tours have taken him from Cairo to New York.
