Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924), Requiem, Op. 48

Requiem, Op. 48, performed by the Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana under the baton of Slaven Kulenović, is considered one of the most frequently performed works by Gabriel Fauré. It was first performed in 1888. According to Fauré himself, it was created “for the pleasure of it,” and due to its predominantly gentle tone, it has often been described as a “lullaby of death.” Today, there are numerous performance versions in use, ranging from the earliest arrangement for a smaller ensemble to the final revision with a full orchestra.

The Symphony Orchestra (Upper Secondary Level) of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana, founded in 1953, offers young musicians the opportunity to engage in orchestral playing and to become familiar with both classical and contemporary musical literature. The orchestra regularly performs on stages in Slovenia and abroad. Since 2014, it has been led by conductor and pianist Slaven Kulenović, a recognized Slovenian conductor of the younger generation, who has collaborated with the Slovenian Philharmonic, the RTV Slovenia Orchestra, as well as the Sarajevo Philharmonic and the Lohja Philharmonic (Finland).

The KGBL Chamber Choir, taken over in 2010 by the award-winning composer and conductor Ambrož Čopi, consists of around 40 singers who specialize in more demanding choral literature. The choir works regularly with vocal coaches Edita Garčević Koželj and Tatjana Vasle. Its repertoire is stylistically diverse, ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music. In the past three years, the choir has collaborated with prominent Slovenian and international composers and has achieved great success on both concert and competition stages in Slovenia and abroad.
