Lado Jakša is an internationally renowned author at the intersection of music, photography and artistic reflection, composer, musical improviser, art photographer and visual artist. As a composer and performer of original music, he combines jazz with experimental and ambient soundscapes for a variety of artistic fields: art exhibitions, film, contemporary dance. His multimedia creations are a synthesis of live musical improvisation, photography, video and philosophical and literary starting points.

He has more than 60 solo photographic exhibitions, 14 music albums and over 100 projects presented in Slovenia and abroad (USA, Italy, Austria, Portugal, France, Slovakia, Finland…). He has collaborated with many renowned local and international jazz artists (Peter Kowald, Dennis Gonzalez, Reggie Workman, Rob Blakeslee, Seppo Grundler, etc.). He regularly performs at art workshops and symposiums.

In his latest multimedia project with author live music, Lado Jakša creates a profound multimedia interpretation of the thought and artistic world of Edvard Kocbek – one of the most important Slovenian intellectuals of the 20th century. Kocbek’s poetry and prose transcend the historical framework and address man in his ethical, existential and spiritual dimensions – the questions of freedom, responsibility, conscience, compassion and truth are as alive today as they were at their inception.

The project I am a thinker and an artist combines photographic multimedia and a live performance of original music into a single multimedia narrative. Through musical improvisation and visual poetics, Jakša creates a space for rethinking Kocbek’s humanist message. Soundscapes infused with jazz, experimental and ambient expression are interwoven with black and white visual glimpses – a reflection of the time and inner world that Kocbek so lucidly articulated.

At a time when reflection on social values, truth and individual responsibility is crucial, the project offers an original artistic platform for a conversation with thought that does not leave us indifferent.
