Romano Drom is one of the most renowned Vlach Roma ensembles in Central and Eastern Europe and, since 1998, an important and ever-evolving name on the world music scene. The group has performed accross the globe, touring in 30 countries and playing nearly 500 concerts since its formation, consistently reaching audiences with an honest voice and authentic message, telling stories drawn from hidden urban folklore. What could be more genuine than that?
Romano Drom also speaks to listeners who may not yet have discovered world music. Their seven albums reflect the efforts of founder and songwriter Antal Kovács to preserve the roots of tradition while at the same time renewing them. He intertwines his musical and lyrical ideas with elements from other cultures, blending them together into a contemporary world music sound.
Their music can be deeply melancholic and emotional at times, their intensely energetic and dance-driven the next. It is a fusion of traditional string and percussion instruments enriched with drums and bass guitar, where reimagined folk melodies and original compositions are given a modern arrangement. This harmoniously refreshed vision of Vlach Roma tradition along with their outstanding live performances, regularly earns them standing ovations on stages around the world.
