MATINEE AT THE OPERA

The Music Matinees at the SSG will conclude this year’s series on Sunday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. with an exceptional event dedicated to opera music. This time, the series organized by Glasbena matica FVJ and the Slovene Permanent Theater will showcase the shared love of music among three members of the same family, featuring baritone Damjan Locatelli, pianist Tamara Ražem Locatelli, and harpist Maja Locatelli.

A longtime member of the Verdi Opera Theater’s professional chorus, Damjan Locatelli developed his vocal skills after gaining experience in the Jacobus Gallus Choir and the Trieste Octet by studying solo singing with tenor Carlo Biasini, and later with Adi Danev and Eleonora Jankovič. He has performed in opera productions and solo recitals in Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Known as a pianist, an exceptionally successful educator, and secretary of the Slovenian Piano Teachers’ Association (EPTA). For her exceptional pedagogical and organizational achievements, Tamara Ražem Locatelli first received the Gerbič Award, and in 2025, the Slovenian Culture Day Award for outstanding artistic achievements and a significant contribution to strengthening Slovenian culture and identity.

The matinee “at the opera” will be presented by two musicians from Trieste together with their daughter Maja Locatelli, who is establishing herself as a promising harpist. Hits from Italian opera, ranging from Verdi to Mascagni and Leoncavallo, will be performed alongside popular French and Russian arias, while the harp provides the interlude. The SSG box office and café will open one hour before the matinee begins.
