The concert also commemorates the 130th anniversary of the death of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the 50th anniversary of the death of noted Slovenian composer Lucijan Marija Škerjanc.
Soprano Gaja Sorč graduated in singing from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. Having attended many singing classes she is currentlyfurthering her education with Alenka Slokar Bajc. As a soloist, she took part in numerous projects and collaborated with many performers (ProVox male choir, Goriški oktet, Partizanski pevski zbor, Simfonični orkester Domžale – Kamnik, Laško wind ensemble, Godalni kvartet NOVA string quartet to name but a few). The more important projects she participated in within the framework of the Academy of Music include the role of Papagena (Magic Flute, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), Flora (The Turn of the Screw, Benjamin Britten), Mini Operas I and II. She made her debut in the titular role of the Hops Princess by Radovan Gobec, she portrayed Julia in the opera of the same title by Aleš Makovac, performed as Nelle and Laurette (Gianni Schicchi, Giacomo Puccini) at the prestigious Berlin opera academy, and appeared as Minka and Tina in Hiša Usmiljenja (House of Mercy), an opera composed by Tomaž Svete. She is an active member of the Slovenian Chamber Musical Theatre. She frequently takes part in singing competitions both at home and abroad.
Mezzo-soprano Ana Pavlov Pervanje completed her studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. As a soloist, she has performed in operas such as Suor Angelica / Sister Angelica (G. Puccini), The Magic Flute (W. A. Mozart), Pod Svobodnim Soncem / Under the Free Sun (T. Kobe), The Turn of the Screw (B. Britten), Nesrečni ljubimec / The Unfortunate Lover (I. Kocen), Iolanta (P. I. Tchaikovsky), and the jazz opera War and Peace (L. Coryell) and Iver Kleive’s Requiem. As an additional chorister, she appeared in Bizet’s Carmen at the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci at the Madlenianum Opera and Theatre in Belgrade. She has performed in Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, and Poland. During her studies, she won several first prizes at the Lazar Jovanović International Singing Competition in Belgrade, second prize at the Competition of Young Slovenian Musicians and Ballet Dancers (TEMSIG), a special prize for the performance of a work by a Slovenian composer and third prize at the spevSLAM competition for pianists, singers, and composers, as well as a special prize and first place at a competition in Belgrade.
