FROM WOMB TO WORLD TO WORLD OF WONDERS (Germany)

Merzouga (Eva Poepplein and Janko Hanushevsky)

Improvisation combining electronics, processed bass guitar, toys, recordings of Slovenian children’s songs, and field recordings weaves a dense web of references, which address memories, experiences, and associations of both children and adults. The duo combines sounds familiar to children, a mixture of simple musical forms, and unexpected techniques of contemporary electro-acoustic and improvised music in order to put on a performances that avoids the cliches of “music for children” while still providing an accessible sonic experience. “From the moment we open our ears in the womb, we plug into the sonic continuum. The world is full of rhythmic pulsation and melodies created by life, which we simultaneously perceive and create always and everywhere. The life of the city, its voices and sonorities become a part of the live performance. To listen means to connect. Once we open our ears to the world around us it becomes a womb. We realise that we are a part of the oscillating web of life embracing our planet.”
