Nova Schola Labacensis is a unique Slovenian ensemble for early and world music, which continues the mission of Schola Labacensis, a pioneer ensemble of this genre in Slovenia. The Nova Schola Labacensis is the only domestic ensemble that also performs Greek rebetiko or Greek blues on authentic musical instruments in the broader context of the Byzantine and Ottoman musical tradition. Recently, the ensemble released the jubilee CD Okcident sreča Orient, on which it very convincingly combined both extremely rich and stylistically diverse musical traditions in a wide range from London, Paris, Rome, and Venice to Constantinople, Aleppo, Shiraz, and Kabul. All members of the ensemble, led by internationally acclaimed lute player Boris Šinigoj, are extremely skilled and experienced soloists. So far, the ensemble has impressed critics and listeners at numerous international festivals, such as SEVIQC, NYMBUS, Klassik auf Hum, Musical Evenings in St Donat, Serate musicali Piranesi, JEFF, Nights in Old Ljubljana town, and concert series such as Orpheus Novus and Sozvočja sveta.
