The gala opening of the festival, opera concert performed by the ensemble of SNG Opera Maribor, located at Congress Square, is dedicated to the venerable opera tradition within the Maribor National Theatre, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. The beginnings of the institutional Slovenian musical theatre in the Styrian capital are connected to the year 1920, when the operetta Mam’zelle Nitouche was performed on the local stage for the first time.
