On International Jazz Day, Ljubljana Old Town will turn into a stage. From 11 am to 6 pm, come and listen to jazz street performances in various locations around town: the Tromostovje and Cobblers’ Bridge, the Robba Fountain in Mestni trg and Hercules’ Fountain in Stari trg. Warmly welcome to jazz!
SWINGTER (street performance)
Aljaž Bassin, solo/rhythm guitar
Aljaž Draškovič-Bračun, rhythm guitar
Patrick Gyurkač—Gyuri, double bass
The Swingter trio plays Django-jazz-style compositions from the golden age of swing, as well as the more modern gypsy jazz. Swingter are along with Momento Cigano and Swingatan one of the few ensembles in Slovenia that are involved with that genre. The band also frequently plays with violinists and other soloists.
ŽIGA SMRDEL TRIO (street performance)
Žiga Smrdel, drums
Matic Mikola, alto saxophone
Peter Smrdel, double bass
The jazz ensemble of the younger generation will mostly be presenting mainstream jazz which has now become rare to come by. They play bebop and hardbop—music from the golden Jazz Age.
