VAL RESIA (Italy)
The folk group “Val Resia” is considered the oldest folk group in Italy. It was founded in 1838, when people from the Resia Valley danced before the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand the first and his wife in Udine in October of the same year. The group presents the typical music and dance of the Resian people who live in the north – east of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia in Province of Udine, Italy. Resia valley is well known for its unique and particular cultural heritage, which is ever the focus of renowned experts and scientists. The typical Resian folk tradition remains alive and regularly practiced during Carnival, village festivals, weddings, etc.
The members of the group wear typical folk costumes stemming from the XVIII century. During Carnival they wear the lipe bile maškire / the beautiful white carnival costumes. The instruments played by the small “orchestra” are the violin, which is called cïtira in Resian dialect, and bünkula – a sort of violoncello.
