Sound immersion into the magic of old folk songs from the Istrian and Karst landscapes.

Katja Šulc is a singer and music artist whose work brings together poetry, contemporary folk, traditional music, and storytelling. Her eclectic musical language is shaped by atmospheric soundscapes, intimate interpretation, multilayered vocal harmonies, repetition, and various forms of sound manipulation. A central thread running through her five studio albums is the dialogue between poetry and music. Her latest album, West Wind Blow From Your Prairie Nest (ŠKUC, 2024), dedicated to the culture of Indigenous peoples of North America, entered the Top 20 of the World Music Charts Europe upon its release and was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

In spring 2026, she released the single Kubejski, rooted in the cultural and musical landscape of Istria. During a residency at the house of the poet Alojz Kocjančič-Kubejski, she immersed herself in the evocative Istrian environment, drawing on old folk melodies, which she reinterpreted through a contemporary musical language, as well as on the oral traditions of Istrian communities and the legacy of the Šavrinke women preserved in written accounts and visual records. Her artistic exploration continued across the Karst Edge into the poetic world of Srečko Kosovel. His poetry in Spanish translation took on a new musical life through her collaboration with Chilean musician Felipe Echavarrio of the ensemble Coral Rojo.
