ROK ZALOKAR QUARTET
Rok Zalokar, piano
Eva Poženel, vocals
Dejan Hudoklin, bass guitar
Andro Manzoni, drums

Pianist and composer Rok Zalokar is an active member of musical scenes in Ljubljana and Rotterdam. With various ensembles (Almighty Mill, Rok Zalokar Trio, Kukushai, Dvojina) has recorded six albums in the last five years. Zalokar’s music is placed in the field of new post-war creativity. This time, he worked with his permanent musical colleagues, with whom he began to take part in jazz studies at the Rotterdam Music Academy.

Vocalist Eva Poženel first studied classical solo singing in Ljubljana and found her right path during a jazz course in Rotterdam. Her style escapes patterns of standard jazz singing and focuses on avant-garde, pop, and experimental techniques. The critics compare her with the vocalist of punk queen Nine Hagen, and some even compared her with the first lady of the dark Diamanda Galás. Dejan Hudoklin, who plays bass guitar, also completed his studies of jazz in Rotterdam. He performs in various jazz bands and is interested mainly in creative musical research. To these mentioned innovative musicians will also accompany the same innovative Andro Manzoni on drums.

April 30th was on the initiative of the legendary jazz composer Herbie Hancock recognized as International Jazz Day at the General Assembly of UNESCO. It was as well added to the United Nations’ calendar in 2012. Today it is celebrated in more than 190 countries.

UNESCO recognizes jazz music as a means of freedom of expression and dialogue between cultures; as a is synonym of respect for human rights and the dignity of women in men, regardless of their origin.
