JADRANKA JURAS JAZZ QUINTET
Jadranka Juras graduated from jazz singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. During her studies and after completing her studies, she recorded independent discs Anima and Sakura, which were very well received among Slovene audiences and radio listeners. Anima’s album was also announced for the album of the year. She is a regular guest on numerous records of Slovenian musicians. In 2016, NIKA Records released a CD of jazz music called Paris honey. There are nine songs on it – eight jazz “classic” and one author’s song, written for the instrumental trio. Just before her release, her second jazz album, which she recorded in collaboration with Big Band of RTV Slovenia and Milan Stanisavljević, by the title “You and I and the music”; it will be published in digital form at the ZKP publishing house. Jadranka Juras is also active as opera singer, currently singing in SNG Maribor in the performance of Gounod’s opera Faust.
April 30th was on the initiative of the legendary jazz composer Herbie Hancock recognized as International Jazz Day at the General Assembly of UNESCO. It was as well added to the United Nations’ calendar in 2012. Today it is celebrated in more than 190 countries.
UNESCO recognizes jazz music as a means of freedom of expression and dialogue between cultures; as a is synonym of respect for human rights and the dignity of women in men, regardless of their origin.
