The Young Musicians’ Summer Academy has been organized for the past 18 years. It attracts talented musicians, students of music academies and junior music teachers from all over the world. The Kodály Zoltán World Youth Orchestra, whose members represent 16 different nationalities, rehearses during the Summer Academy. After the course the ensemble goes on concert tour both in Hungary and abroad. For the last couple of years they have performed in the Unesco Centre, Paris – France, Milano – Italy, Bellaggio Festival – Italy, Concert Hall of the Slovak Radio – Bratislava and Galanta – Slovakia, Academy of Performing Arts, Praha – Czech Republic, Esterhazy Castle,Haydn Hall,Eisenstadt – Austria and Romania.
The artistic leader and conductor of the orchestra is Tamás Vásáry, who is also world-famous as a brilliant pianist. He holds several prizes and awards conferred upon him for the high level of his activity as an artist. These include the Kossuth Prize, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, the Golden Prize of the President of Hungary and the Cruciferi Sancti Stephani Regis. He also holds the title of the Artist of the Nation and was elected Man of the year in 1999.
