Igor Lumpert (Slovenia)

Igor is a Slovene composer and a jazz saxophonist. Lumpert began his professional training at age 19 at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, Austria, where he studied with Doug Hammond and Harry Sokal. During this period, he was a member of Munich-based band Sidewinders, winner of the “Best Jazz Group of Germany” award. After completing his studies with honors, Lumpert was invited by one of the world’s finest bassists, Reggie Workman, to study at the New School University in New York City. He received a scholarship and moved to New York in fall 2000. Lumpert’s music represents a unique fusion of jazz, funk, Eastern European rhythms, and modern neo-bop sketches. He has performed with jazz legends including Reggie Workman, John Abercrombie, Chico Hamilton, Sonny Simmons, Boris Kozlov and Andy McKee. Lumpert has performed at jazz festivals in Munich, Ljubljana, Novi Sad, Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana. Igor Lumpret has performed at major jazz clubs in New York including the Jazz Standard, Cornelia Street Cafe, Supper Club, Birdland and venues in Vienna, Munich, Linz, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Novi Sad, Athens, Crete, Venice and Hungary.

Javier Moreno Sanchez (Spain)

Born in March 1976, composer and double bassist Javier Moreno Sanchez originates from Madrid. Since he was a kid, he felt the necessity to make the music as something primordial to his life. Upon finishing his classical education in Madrid, he moved to Netherlands to attend the best jazz program in Europe at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He holds a bachelor degree in jazz performance from The Koninjlijk Conservatorium (Holland) and a master’s degree in jazz performance from the New York University Steinhardt (NY, USA). During the past four years, in addition to New York City, he had resided in Rome, Madrid and Buenos Aires, where he has been dedicated to an intensive agenda of professional dissemination and the enrichment of his musical sensibilities as a performer, teacher and composer in contemporary creation, flamenco, jazz, and creative music in addition to other disciplines such as theater and visual arts.

Mareike Wiening (Germany)

At the age of 5 she was introduced to music and began to play the piano. Mareike discovered jazz after a few early years of playing the piano, flute and singing. She found her passion in drums at the age of 15. Mareike studied jazz at the University of Performing Arts, Mannheim, Germany and completed a year long exchange at Rytmik Musikkonservatory (Copenhagen, Denmark) in 2010. During her time in Copenhagen, Mareike studied with Jonas Johansen, Django Bates, Kresten Osgood and Marilyn Mazur.

In Mannheim, Mareike attended classes of Prof. Michael Küttner where she received her degree, a Bachelor of Music (University of Performing Arts, Mannheim) in 2011 and a Master of Music in 2014. Outside of her jazz education she won several competitions and awards both in Jazz and Classical with piano and drums. Mareike is a former member of the German Youth Jazz Orchestra (Bundesjugendjazzorchester- BuJazzO) and a member of the swiss award band „Generations 2010“ conducted by Adrian Mears. In April 2011 the band „Generations 2010“ recorded a CD which was released on the Montreux-Jazzlabel TCB. As a sidewoman, Mareike has played on several albums (f.e. Johannes Ludwig Quintett feat. Johannes Enders, Nagel & Heyer Records and Christoph Neuhaus Quintett, Unit Records). As a student, she was selected to represent the University of Mannheim at the IASJ Meeting 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with artist director Dave Liebman. Mareike is a cultural laureate of her hometown Herzogenaurach as well as the county Erlangen- Höchstadt in Bavaria, Germany.

In 2012, she moved to New York City after recieving the DAAD scholarship from Germany for two years. Mareike was enrolled at the master program at New York University where she has studied with Tony Moreno, Stefon Harris, Kenny Werner, Dave Pietro and many more. She received her degree Master of Music in spring 2014.
