Highly esteemed Slovenian percussionist Zlatko Kaučič is known for his numerous albums and groups, performing with world-renowned musicians such as Steve Lacy, Alexander Balanescu, Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Paul Bley, Kenny Wheeler, Paul McCandless, and others. Recipient of the Prešeren Fund Award in 2011, he has recorded dozens of highly acclaimed albums immersed in free-minded jazz improvisation during his career. Kaučič is also known for his music school, which has nurtured a number of prominent Slovenian musicians, and has received the JSKD Life Achievement Award for his mentoring work. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Zvočni Izviri Cultural and Artistic Society, Kaučič, as its artistic director, has prepared a special album, EMBRACES, which as the latest in a series of Kaučič’s ensemble releases, weaves together various aspects of his long-term work. The tenth album combines members of the formations KOMBO A, B, C, and guests, who explore extended musical fields of interplay, coloristics, and sound matching between improvisation and melody, reflecting on the times we live in. KOMBO D (younger school section) will present the newly released album, Celebration in the Time of Bitterness.
