울림 (OOLLIM) TRIO (Korea, Slovenia)
June Yun, vocals
Vid Jamnik, vibraphone
Gal Golob, double bass
The Korean word 울림 (oollim) refers to the phenomenon of sound rebounding after striking a surface, gently vibrating through space. Yet oollim signifies more than the physical echo of sound — it also describes the emotional resonance that lingers afterward. In Korean, the word is likewise used as a verb when something deeply touches the heart. This spirit lies at the core of Trio 울림’s music-making: in their own words, they create music for the heart and soul, hoping that its emotions will continue to resonate with listeners long after the final note has faded.
The trio features:
South Korean vocalist June Yun, who lives and works between New York and Berlin. Her music blends elements of jazz, classical music, R&B, Korean traditional music, and pop. She has performed at renowned jazz venues such as Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center, Smalls Jazz Club, and the John Tishman Auditorium. In February, her debut album Enlightenment – Solid Waves was featured on the program Jazz Ars All Stars on RTV Slovenia.
Slovenian vibraphonist, percussionist, and composer Vid Jamnik began his musical journey under the mentorship of legendary vibraphonist Boško Petrović. He performs internationally with numerous acclaimed musicians and ensembles. During his studies at Berklee College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, he studied and performed alongside many outstanding talents and jazz legends, including Joe Locke, Joel Ross, Stefon Harris, Dayna Stephens, Miguel Zenón, Ingrid Jensen, Shai Maestro, Jimmy Cobb, Georgie Fame, Jim Rotondi, Stefan Milenkovich, and many others.
Gal Golob completed his studies at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana as a classical cellist and jazz double bassist before continuing at the prestigious Jazz Institute Berlin. In 2022, he won second prize at the Jazzon competition and has since performed at numerous distinguished international festivals, including Jazzopen Stuttgart, Druga Godba, Jazz Festival Ljubljana, Bayerisches Jazzweekend, Festival MENT, and others.
At this concert, Trio 울림 will present a rich interplay of jazz standards, Korean traditional music, folk music, contemporary jazz, and original compositions by June Yun.
