SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE 2020 SUMMER CONCERT SEASON
The 32nd Nights in Old Ljubljana Town International Festival successfully concluded the 2020 summer concert season, which, despite the extraordinary conditions, thrilled with a variety of events. The exceptional attendance of all concerts and the great media support confirm the quality and reputation of the Imago Sloveniae project. We took into account the prescribed measures and restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus, which made the venues significantly too small. Much of the culture eager visitors remained in front of the venues, which were quickly filled, indicating a great social need for such cultural events.
It is important that, regardless of the situation, cultural events continue to take place and that artists are given the opportunity to perform. With this year’s program, we have mainly supported exceptional local musicians, who especially need support in this extremely difficult period for culture. The program marked the important anniversaries of the births of Ludwig van Beethoven and Hugo Wolf. We paid special attention to some of the best young artists, and we also hosted some eminent foreign music ensembles.
Admission free concerts by high level musicians have enriched the summer cultural offer and have offered people a safe haven of art, which, in these uncertain times, represents one of the last refuges of beauty and peace.
As part of our international festivals and concert cycles Summer in Old Ljubljana Town, Young Talents, Jazz Stage and Nights in Old Ljubljana Town, took place:
- 45 concerts and other cultural events
- 240 musicians from 17 countries
- 10 venues in Slovenia
- over 13.000 visitors
- International Multidisciplinary Symposium
- 5 recorded concerts (Radio Slovenia – program ARS)
For 32 years, as a non-governmental and non-profit organization, we have been providing free access to high-level cultural events. Due to poor public funding support, we are forced to finance ourselves mainly by sponsors and donors, which is becoming increasingly difficult. Thus, this year we were forced to significantly reduce the number of cultural events.
